Camelid Medicine and Surgery Residency

The Food and Fiber Animal Medicine and Surgery Section at The Ohio State University has a post-DVM Residency position available starting July 15, 2005. The program is a three year combined residency and graduate studies program leading to a certificate of residency and a Master of Science degree. The candidate must be a graduate veterinarian with at least one year of general practice experience and must meet the requirements for entry into the Graduate School at The Ohio State University. Preference is given to veterinarians with some farm animal experience.

The objectives of the program are to:

  • Develop comprehensive, state-of-the-art expertise and clinical proficiency in medicine and surgery of camelids, but also including farm animals;
  • Satisfy the criteria necessary to qualify for Board certification in either ACVIM or ACVS;
  • Prepare for future career goals of teaching, clinical research, scientific publication or specialized practice; and
  • Attain the Master of Science degree in a specific area of research interest.

The Section has one Board Certified Surgeon (ACVS), two Board Certified Internal Medicine specialist (ACVIM), and one Board Certified Theriogenologist (ACT). Also, there are a clinic-tract assistant professor, three other residents and one intern in the section.
