Country Roads Veterinary Services, Inc. Dairy Practice and Production Medicine Summer Scholarship

Second year CVM students who have successfully taken the prerequisite courses (Diseases of Cattle [VCS 746] and Dairy Herd Health [VPM 796.06]) and are in good standing in the OSU CVM are eligible to apply. Students must be members of SAVMA and must provide medical insurance during the summer experience. Applicants will be reviewed and awardees determined through a selection committee of three OSU CVM faculty. This committee will be assembled and led by the Chair of the Department of Veterinary Preventive Medicine or his/her designee. Applicants must express a sincere desire to experience dairy practice and complete an applied observational project during the summer experience.

Scholarship:

Up to 2 students will be selected for this scholarship. For each student, the clinical experience will be of 4 weeks duration, and will be arranged in cooperation with Dr. K. Fred Gingrich II. Students will be hosted during different times (not concurrently). Housing will be provided at no charge to the recipient during the clinical experience. Student awardees will receive a cash scholarship of $500 upon successful completion of the clinical experience (as determined by the supporting practice) and the applied project (as determined by the Chair, VPM or their designate). It is expected that the cash award will be available by September 30, following the summer experience. Students must provide their own transportation to the practice, and some local travel at student expense will be required. Awardees must also provide coveralls and boots of sufficient quality and quantity to meet standards of Country Roads Veterinary Services, Inc.

  1. Complete the application and release form.
  2. Include a current 1-2 page resume.
  3. Include a 1 page letter of intent describing your career interests and goals for this experience.
