Our Services

The Small Animal Medicine section at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital of Ohio State University offers state-of-the-art diagnostic evaluation and treatment of dogs and cats with cardiology concerns.

Service Highlights

Your pet will be well-cared for by our medical teams, which typically consist of a faculty member in medicine (a board-certified specialist with many years of clinical experience), a resident (a graduate veterinarian who has completed an internship and is training to become an internal medicine specialist), an intern (a graduate veterinarian in their first year of clinical experience), a fourth year veterinary student (a veterinarian-in-training), and a registered animal health technician. Our comprehensive care includes many support services, including a complete clinical laboratory offering routine and specialized diagnostic tests; a modern imaging department that offers radiographs (X-rays), fluoroscopy (motion X-rays), ultrasound exams, CT (computed tomography), and MRI (magnetic resonance imaging); radiation therapy; endoscopy of the gastrointestinal, respiratory and urinary tracts; echocardiography (ultrasound examination of the heart); electrodiagnostic testing of muscle and nerve function; and a fully equipped intensive care service with 24-hour, 7-day-a-week monitoring and treatment.

Patient visits are by appointment only or emergencies by referral through your veterinarian (our referral secretary is Stephanie Yochem).

• Heart and respiratory disorders, including heart murmurs, heart failure, heartworms, heart rhythm disturbances, collapse, coughing, nasal discharge, asthma

Payment

Payment is expected at the time of your visit. For your convenience, we accept MasterCard, VISA and Discover cards, as well as personal checks. Our clinicians will give you an estimate of the costs of your animal’s diagnostic evaluation and treatment, however, it is difficult at presentation to predict additional tests and treatments that may become necessary during the course of your pet’s stay. Your animal’s doctor is able to provide you with daily updates of your hospital bill if you request them. Clients are asked to pay $300 at the time of hospitalization for estimates of less than $1,000 or $600 for estimates over $1,000. Read more about our payment policies.
